I feel so tired today, and I have no clue why. My arms hurt, and my butt ached like hell. Then after coming back from the New Year's Eve dinner, I discovered that it's because I played 3 games of bowling at the HUB yesterday. God, I'm just too lazy to go workout..... I'm gonna go IMA more often since we have to pay the IMA fee now.
By the way, I'm gonna go see the DVD ---- "What Time Is It There" directed by Tsai Ming-Liang to celebrate the peaceful New Year's Eve now. Whee~~~

Happy New Year!!!
I had a great dinner with Jaz @ Cheesecake Factory tonight since he will have to celebrate the New Year's Eve on the airplane. It's nice to celebrate a weighty holiday with an old friend, especially when you are far away from home. (And tell you what, Jaz, I'll beat you next time!!!!) Anyway, tonight will be the "actual" New Year's Eve, and I think I'm gonna find a quite place to settle + organize myself a bit, and celebrate the holiday peacefully. (oh well, maybe with couple of VCDs~~)

This week has been passed like wind. Jason just left for Sea-Tac like an hour ago, and hope he can catch his flight this time!! Too bad that there's sth wrong with my CD, and it seems like my DVD burner cannot proceed the "fixation" thing. Guess I'm just gonna mail him the CD after I have it fix then~~~
Hope he'll come to UW for grad. school in the near future!!! But anyhow I'll go Sydney again to visit Vinci and bunch of friends, and of course ---- the 粗魯仔!!

Hahahaha~~~ Life is FULL OF EXCITEMENT!!!
Jason just encounters every possible trouble during his 1st USA trip.
1. Sony online shopping failed.
2. Both of his credit card got denied.
3. Couldn't find a hotel in Boston.
4. Not having enough cash.
5. Running out of pre-paid phone card. (It was my bad actually)
6. And.........
I got his phone call this morning, and he told me that.....HE MISSED THE FLIGHT BACK TO TAIWAN!!! Hahahaha~~~ Making phone calls to change the flight for him is no big deal, but he's really muddled (in a funny way). I laughed so hard when I call up Vinci, and we both think I should get a "Damage Control Certificate of Distinction" from Jaz. (hee hee~~ Am I bad, Jaz?)
Anyway, I'm so so so happy that Jaz can come and visit. Seeing each other again is really "scarce" coz no matter how hard to work this out, our vacations can NEVER MATCH!! Next, we'll have to see when can I go Sydney and visit them~~~~

I'm seriously thinking about changing a wireless provider. The actual reason for that is just because I want a new + fancier cell phone. Let's see..... What should I get next?? Nokia? Or Motorola? Heard that Nokia 3330 is a good one, but I checked that only 1260, 3590, 3390 have free cell phone with AT&T. What about T-Mobile?
Guess this sounds like a cool New Year plan!!!

Finally!! Somebody breaks the record!!!
Remember I told you that I chatted with T.Y. for like 5 hours on phone? Now I have a new record holder ---- Jason!! Not on phone thou. I chatted with him ALL NIGHT LONG face to face (oh well, not really "face to face"....) in my room. Were it not for his flight to SF, we could have chatted longer, I believe. (God, we are so so so talkative!!)
And tell you what, no kidding, staying up whole night makes you extremely tired the next day. I had Japanese lecture today only, and that made me toasted already~~~
I'm off for a nice nap now~~

Went to Space Needle with Jaz "last night", but too bad it was closed.
Anyway, with the horrible experience back in Boston, I now have like everything arranged for Jaz this time. He'll visit San Francisco today, I made a hotel reservation for him, and found him driving directions. We're all set!! (Special thanks to Stud by the way.)
Guess I'll see him again on Thursday!! Bon voyage!!

Ugh~~ Monday again....I think I have a serious disease called "Monday Sympton" ---- don't feel like to work at all, feel lethargic + unenergetic.
I can totally see that the TOSA meeting "today" will be a severe one since Stud and I ran away from the hotpot thing last Thursday. We'll be blamed for that for sure.
Anyway, I'll do sth fun tonight, and I'll have more to tell.

Here's what I've done so far: doing on-line banking for Jaz, calling SONY for like 1000 times, gathering info regarding San Francisco Palo Alto area, creating a pre-paid phone account, doing laundry......
K, guess I'll get off and do a bit of my HW...... I'll be pretty free next week since I'll have no lab thing!! (wish I can go to SF with Jaz....)

Seems like the web servers in the States are totally down today...(Thank God that AT&T is still alive!!)
Anyway, Jaz had a real hard time in Boston. First of all, he waited in the airport for an hour to rent a car, and it's crapy. Secondly, it's cold (freezing actually) there and the only hotel he could find is $300 per night. Third, when he checked in the hotel, (he finally found a cheaper one.) his credit card got denied. Guess it's just not his day, not at all. When I tried to fax the hotel my authorization letter of paying his expenses, the trasaction went thru. After all these mess, I should say that COMPUTER SYSTEM SUCKS SOMETIMES!!! Not to mention Jaz's SONY C1MW business.....
So, Jaz, you like MA or WA? (hee hee hee~~)

Stud wore his "shinny blue shirt" (he looks like as if he's clubbing, not for a semi-formal dance) to the dance last night, and he danced in the pool with me while I was outside the pool. So basically we danced across the fens. He "spins" me like crazy, and accidentally let me hit the fens. What I get today is a "linear bruise" on my left forearm.....
What a great souvenir...........

Great evening!!
Went to TSA dance tonight, and it was awesome. Not because of dancing with bunch of people (in fact, I didn't dance at all.), but beacuse I had a LONG NICE CHAT with Jaz by the Lake Union.
To me, it seems like I've known him for years even though I only hungout with him for like 3 weeks when I was in Sydney. And he tells me a lot of things tonight. Our goal of life, our believe of life, our feelings about things, and stuff like that. It's a nice long chat, seriously. His words inspire me so much to an extent that he might never know. And I DO learn a lot from him since the day we met. (By the way, I really really really like the way he speaks...his British-Australian-English accent...God, I just LOVE that accent...)
I wonder when can we chat again like what we did tonight.........(We'll so gonna do that again some time in the future, Jaz!!!)

Busy day.............
Went to Boeing with Jason this afternoon, and he was SO SO SO excited!! He can name every single aircraft he sees, and explains to me the structure and function stuff like that. Guess he's just so into it~~~ hee hee!! So, Jaz, are you coming for UW next year??
TOSA held a Chinese New Year hot pot thing tonight. SO many people came, and the officers didn't even have seats..(oh well, except for our great President....) An hour later, we found that the stove was out of gas. So, I went thru 5 stores leaving Jaz there to buy the stupid gas can for the stove, tired and frustrated. I didn't eat much coz I'm basically walking around and collecting garbage.... Tim and I were so so so tired, and we decided to go to Chinatown for dinner. (By the way, we 2 will be the President and the Vise-President next year. Sad.) Anyway, great dinner time with friends in Chinatown, and you know what!? I gotta head back to my study now. Wish me luck!!

OK, I think I'm goin' nuts. (Haven't even start my study plan yet....)
Went crazy shopping this afternoon , and I bought 2 dresses for the dance this Friday.
But I guess something big just came up....Yang was like totally out of control of her emotion, and kept shouting that she's not going...... I can somewhat feel how she feels, but I really don't think it's a "big-big" deal. She claims that her heart was totally broken within this month. How can I comfort her? What am I gonna do?
Oh, by the way, I don't want to see anything related to "hearts" if it's not for me next month. That's it. (I sound witchy.)

I have to say that Stud's ex-roommate is such a weird guy.....
First of all, he bought a USD$35,000 Audi, but he doesn't even have a driver's license. It is HIS FRIENDS who drive his 35 grand new car all the time.....
Secondly, he made sth stupid up today. He told Stud that I chatted with him a lot recently, and that's how he know things about Stud. As a matter of fact, I just saw him once since the quarter begins, and I didn't even got a chance to say "hi" to him. He just acted funny, and seems like he's got a "girl" again and keeps bragging about it....
I'm not saying that his a bad guy, but just....you know.....He "碎碎唸" a lot, and he speaks "Chinese-English" + "Taiwanese-Chinese" + "English-Japanese", that's it. Kinda cool "in a way".....

Oh~~~ Got my computer RE-INSTALLED again!!!! 2nd time of the weekend. I'll be a "pro" for sure if my computer keeps crashing. See how long it will last this time. We'll see.
I laughed so hard, so hard tonight, and did sth really stupid....such as study "yoga" (more like Buddha sent to ER) with buddies, and had a fight with them while I was reinstalling my computer.....Great night. On the other hand, I think I'm gonna kill myself coz I didn't study for my midterm a lot. :(
Guess I'll take a shower first, then study biochem a bit, and then watch "相親結婚". Yay!!

NICE!!! Just got my computer re-installed tonight. Thanks million, Stud!!! Hope you like the "PHOTO SYNTHESIS" stuff that I bought you!!!
I had "loose bowels" (ewwww...) because of the "secret green-label herbal tea". I was told that Stud's mom think it works very well on (blank) , so that I bought a box of it last time we went to Chintown. You know what, it really works!!! Guess you'll see the effect pretty soon~~ :P
Guess who I saw today on campus? The other cool TA, Joe!!! (The coolest is still Tim, but too bad that he's in SF now.) Joe was my o-chem lab TA (2002 Spring) and he is doing his PH.D. now. His chem presentation thing will be on FEB/24 at 4:00pm in Bagley. Break a leg, Joe!!! (God, he's SO CUTE, and he sincerely invited me to go to his presentation thing. :P)
Did some crazy shopping tonight. I bought 2 skirts and 1 jeans. Great deal.
Yang and I are working on some serious bread+cake-baking business now, and guess something is burned.....Here we are!!!! (guess I'll blog later~~)

Big trouble is now fixed, now only little problems are left behind. Kinda annoying.....But anyway, "Geek" will come and help me with it tomorrow. (orrrr...I mean today.) So good to have so many computer people around!! (hee hee)

I'm TOASTED today!!! 6 hours of lab for me.....
Basically, I just repeated the same procedure for 2000 times: pipet. pipet. pipet. Transferred the stupid culture from 96-well plates to a little tubie thing, and there were 20 plates staring at me. Did the plasmid DNA extraction as well. Doing the extraction on 5 or 8 tubes of DNA is fairly easy, but when it comes to 20 OF THEM, it becomes hell, it becomes "mission impossible". And you know what, 20 more are awaiting for me tomorrow............
Went to work at 4:00pm, and worked all the way 'til the clinic closed. Never worked that late, and it's kinda cool. Had a long walk home, and the breeze just takes all the tireness away. (It always work for me~~)
Anyway, off for dinner!! Dumpling tonight!! (That's what we call "college-student food!!")

I'm finally done for the day!!
Can't believe that I had 10 hours of lab so far, and it's only Tuesday now. I think I'm gonna die by the end of Friday.
My schedule for this week is like HELL coz I shift my 14 hours lab time from next week to this week for Jaz. (I will have no more classes after 11:30am everyday for a whole week!! Wheeeee~~~) I should tell him to wear like a bear coz he is really sensitive to coldness, and it's 45F today here. Anyway, I'm so excited that he's coming. But of course, I'd be very happy if any of you came as well!!
Ran into Jeff today, and we had a great chat before his chem lab. You'd never know a person if you don't talk to him. (but even if you talk to him, you might never know him. That's the tricky math problem. BTW, I'm so into the-other-way-around thing recently, and try to see things with different perspective.) We had a deep talk today, and I found out that he isn't how I think he is. He doesn't always have "FUXX" word in his daily conversations with others, and I also notices that he is a very polite person, have his own style too. Maybe it's the "graduation symptom" that gives us the craziness recently.
All righty, back to my Liebesbrief 101 HW thing.

It's....not....happening.....
I thought I don't need to change my schedule over and over again as I finish more and more courses, but things turn out that it really depends.
I don't think I can possibly learn a thing from inorganic prof. Larson coz she is like murmuring thru out the lecture. I kept questioning myself that is it because my listening is not good enough, so that I cannot get a thing from her? Makeda told me that it isn't the case. Even as a native speaker, Mak cannot understand what she says at all. (prof. Larson has a strong accent!!!) We had a quiz on Friday, and it was like hell. She didn't explain the materials covered in quiz, and she expects us to know everything. HW is hell hard, and 8 problem sets + 2 quizzes counts for 10% of the grades only. Final counts 50%. I can totally foresee that I'm gonna suffer so much if I keep taking it. So, I've decided that I'm gonna drop it, and take it next autumn. In that case, I might want to start my p-chem next winter if I insist on taking Japanese as my 2nd minor. (ignore me, I'm rambling again...)
We'll see.... we'll see....
Watched Footloose (1984) tonight, guess I still like Kevin Bacon. Hey guys, did you know that I used to call myself Mimi Bacon when I was in high school? And all those "encyclopaedia of movie" business? Don't deny it, Crikee!!

GOD!!! I almost burned down our house!!!
I heated my chicken soup while I was doing my HW, and kept telling myself that there's sth on the stove heating up. Then, I got 5 phone calls in a roll, guess I was too into the phone business, so that I fogot all about the soup thing. After finishing my HW, I smell sth unusual ---- burned stuff. THE SOUP!!! God, it dried off......
Man~~~ I promise that I'll never let it happen again....

I made myself steak along with frozen beans and corn tonight for my dinner. It looks kinda weird, but hey~~ it tastes good!!! (Oh of course, coz it was I who made it!!)
Can't believe that I'll have 2 quizzes during the 1st week of school, and one of them will be a review test. I'll be tested basically on WHATEVER I learned from the past. That's the scariest part of being a science major, coz everything is built up from what you've learned. Man~~ Guess I have to study for my Japanese vocabs and my inorganic stuff now.

Hey, Stud, how do you do that?
It seems like Jaz cannot stay at my place coz Wolfgang is getting into a temper again. Did I tell you that Virgo people are kinda troublesome to cope with in a way? Not all of them of course, but majority of them.
We had a new biochem prof. today. The one who passed out told us that he actually feel better after the faint. Huh?? Beg your pardon? Anyway, the new one lectured like !@#$%^&, I was totally wandering in my mind..........
I switched my Japanese section today from 10:30am to 9:30am, so I guess I'll have to run like wind after biochem lecture. There are 4 other classmates from my previous section, I'll be with them again this quarter. One of the annoying parts of learning language is that you have to memorize vocabs.

Just got a call from Vinci, and she told me that Jason will come and visit UW from AUS at the end of this month!!!! God, I miss them so much, but only Jaz will come this time.
When was my last time seeing them? 2000 Sydney Olympic Game, I believe. That'll be just great if he come during that time coz he can be my date at the dance even thou I'll have mid-terms then.

Grrrrrr........my stupid computer just shut down for no reason, so that I have to blog all over again....
I feel like I'm losing my left arm on which the Td shot was given. I don't think I can lift things with the arm, coz I feel so weak.
2nd Day of class, but 1st Japanese lecture. Did I tell you that the relations between my classmates in my previous Japanese section are harmonious? So good to see those who were in my section last quarter to be in the same lecture again today. Lo-san, Liao-san, Chui-san, Lee-san, and Mcternit-san. We learned kanji today. It suppose to be like "nothing" for us Chinese native speaker, right? But guess what, sensei expects us to write words like what textbook tells us to. Write curve line curve, and straight line straight. For instance, "四" cannot be written as Mimi's style; "五" is not a straight line in the middle. GOD!! None of us cares that....... Anyway, 5 of us chatted like crazy right after the lecture ends, and ran into Yao-san. I think we're gonna be in the same section again if nothing came up next quarter.
Ken drives me crazy today in lab. In fact, he's crazy all the time...... He talks to Wei, and tries to understand what Wei says, and he looks at me all the time saying: "Can you understand what he's saying??" with his Cantonese accent. They discussed milli-liter and micro-liter for a long time, coz we have a real hard time matching those with Chinese.
Feel like dying today. (I bet my buddy as well., coz he has 4 classes, 8 hours straight.) I didn't do any of my "after-class activity".
There is a cool exhibition on in Henry Art Gallery, I need to go and check it out some time.
K, back to my Japanese kanji HW. (一二三四五......, I feel so dumb.)

1st day of school today!!!
I didn't sleep well last night because of some stupid reasons, and I turned over and over all night.....
Anyways, my 1st day of the quarter is UNFORGETTABLE!!
1. Our biochem prof. looks like 80 years old, and he talks as if there is a plum in his mouth ---- he murmurs all the time, nobody in the class understands what he tries to say.
2. Our biochem prof. FAINTED while lecturing today!!!! I didn't know it was our prof. who fainted coz I was staring at the overhead, and all of a sudden the overhead projector fell down on the floor. When I looked up, the prof. was gone as well. Obviously, I didn't see him coz he already fainted....... The amazing part is that, he was like:"So, we were talking about fatty acids....." right after he got up from the floor as if nothing happened!!!!! GOD!! I guess he probably faints all the time then....
3. After 6 weeks, the stupid brownish mark of PPD for TB screening thinggy is still on my forearm, and today I got another shot on my upper arm. Td, that is. And I was told that my arm will feel pretty stiff for couple of days.....and I feel stiff now already....
Oh well, hope everything will be just fine.

Man~~ I'm not ready for school yet!!!
Called Vince, and chatted with Yang earlier tonight, (with Tim last night) and none of us is ready for school. I guess we're all alike in a way somehow.
Got up at 5:00pm today, but I still feel sleepy.....Guess I'll heading to bed now, coz I don't want to be late for the very 1st class of the quarter~~~

I thought I'd just pick one DVD for tonight and that'd be it. However, guess I just picked the wrong one.....
Beauty and the Beast special edition, that is. Why would I say it's a wrong one? Coz once I started playing it, I couldn't stop it. (You can tell by the time I post this.) There are 3 versions of the original film, and I went thru each one of them. Plus, I watched the bonus nearly-2-hour "behind the scence" DVD.
I wasn't a big fan of this particular film until I watched this DVD again today. I guess I was too young to truely get the deep meanings of the work when the film was premiered in 1991. The origianl story is noticed by Walt Disney but was being put aside until 1756. It's Roy Edward Disney, the present Vice-President of the Disney Company, who brought the story on stage.
It's a meaningful fairy tale that talks about loving people not becasue of how they look, but becasue of who they really are inside, within their hearts.
How can I end this without mentioning Disney's greatest achievement as they always do? MUSIC!!! The composers, Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, are the geniuses!! (I'm now their bog fan.) Sad is that Howard died 6 months before the premiere because of AIDS.
I was so enchanted with the narrative, the lines, and the music.....And I almost cried.....I saw not only the film but also bunch of people's efforts. They make the film possible, and try so hard to make a little difference in the world .
Keep up the good work, Disney!!!

It's another weird time being on-line......I just woke up at 3:30am and couldn't fall asleep again.
Anyway, thought this might be a good chance to blog about my Shanghai trip and my hanging-out with Vince.
Mimi's Shanghai Trip

I stayed at Somerset service apartment while I was in Shanghai, and it is one of the coolest "hotel". Uncle and I stayed in a 3-bedroom apartment, but were charged for a single room only. There are kitchen, living room, dining room, and 3 bed rooms. Water and coke are served everyday~~~
My first impression of Shanghai is that buildings are like no difference of those in Taipei and Hong Kong, but the average (living standard, education......) level of the general public is not as high as I thought matching the built-up environment. It seems like they build really fansy and tall buildings merely because they want them to be like that, not 100% useful and not 100% absolutely necessary.
The price of merchandise is like extremely unreasonably high with their living standard. Even though the original prices are considered cheap to us, but you can always get the stuff with only 30% or 40% of its original price. The seller was like: "Sir, just tell me how much you'd pay for it, then I'll sell you." I'm so so so so confused by the origianl value of the stuff.....Can I get even cheaper if I say sth lower than what I just said? Will I still get what I want? I shopped a lot.......
The traffic in Shanghai is bad. Cars horn at all time; pedestrians have to flight for their way to walk on the street coz cars would never yield. Traffic lights are merely Christmas light ---- decoration only.
The Bund is the landmark of Shanghai, and you'll know why if you go there in person. Uncle and I walked on the Bund for like 1 hour in order to find a nice restaurant named M. (coz Uncle forgets where it is....) Nice food, and also a nice spot to view the Bund. You gotta try their very-famous dessert ---- Pavlova, it' like the best ever!! (You'll regret for the rest of your life if you leave without having it!!!)
Vincent's stay in Taipei

It has been 13 years since Vince's last time in Taipei. Haven't seen him for a loooooooong time.
We hungout everyday after he came back, like more than 12 hours a day?? And crazily, we went to the movies 2 times in 5 days. We saw The Lord of The Rings, and Harry Potter, both of them are great.
We also went to Taipei World Auto Expo, but it was not as good as we thought......
I had such a great time counting-down this year with Vince even though we didn't join the crowd. We just stood in front of his hotel, Hyatt, which is close to the Tapei City Hall where a concert was held. After a brief celebration of Year 2003, we headed back to the room on 17th floor. Christ, there like thousands and thousands of people walking on the street after the countdown, and it's amazing to see all those people at the same time.....it's like ants moving.....Vince took a pic of it, guess it's pretty unforgettble to him.
Even though I go home like 2:00am and get up at 9:00am everyday, I still enjoy it, a lot I should say. Hanging out with an old friend is extremely rewarding to me, and we even have our next Christmas vacation planned ---- he'll visit me in Seattle, then we fly to Hong Kong together and shop like crazy, followed by going back to Taiwan.
It's so nice to see him again, and it's the best gift to me at the end of year 2002!!!

My computer in Taiwan is totally out!!!
I had such a great time hanging out with Vince, and we also had a deal of meeting and travelling together next Christmas~~ (hee hee,see how excited I am~~)
Anyways, I'll blog more about my hanging-out with Vince once I get back to Seattle.
I'm now in CKS International Airport business center using their free internet service. This feels great, especially when you haven't touched computer for like days......I had shabu-shabu before coming to the airport with my families, and I'm still full...but I think I'll grab sth and eat it coz EVERYTHING IS FREE IN HERE!!!
