It cost me 3 hours to grade only 10 reports, and 40 more to go...... (what a crazy grading weekend!!!)
So, I was invited to a hot pot party tonight (last night, rather), 然後那個死Danny (yes!! VCD Danny!!) 在吃完飯後開始玩"喝酒的遊戲"...... My god, it's fun but you know Mimi doens't drink at all....
喝醉的感覺很奇妙, 整個人慢慢發熱, 頭昏到走路會晃來晃去, 臉紅到不行, 聽得見自己的心跳聲.....其實有點小不舒服, 不知道為什麼人心情不好的時候要喝悶酒, 很難過耶!! (其實今天我只喝了半瓶Smirnoff + 一瓶 hard iced tea, 可是我覺得我都快吐了....)
回家後, 還企圖想要繼續改學生的lab report, 可是竟然被一個學生的問題給問倒了:

I was just wondering…In elementary school when they taught us math they taught us “key words” like:
“less than”- meant subtract
“Increase”- meant add
“product”- meant multiply
Are there any Chemistry “Key Words” that might help me understand better?
I am having trouble with understanding what “word problems” are asking me to solve.

The way we grade our lab report is like CRAZY!!
There is a set protocol for how we grade it, but it seems to me like we cannot have any experimental error at all.
So, the kids are burning Mg, and the product will be MgO. The theoretical % Mg in MgO is 60.31%, if the data give them 60.81%, they got *zero* point for that part.
Hey, man~~ They are NOT doing any analytical chem here, ok? And it's their first lab in their college life. Things can go wrong, and you only allow +/-0.2g for full points?
I would difinetly kill you if I were the student........................

今天又是出糧日!!
不過那個數字看起來怪怪的....
為保險起見, 我check了一下我的employment service account, 才發現 ---- 天哪!! 我一個月要交$220的稅耶!! 希望明年年中可以退稅.....
一大早到學校做我的office hour, 沒想到平時沒人來, 今天一來就是一狗票FIG的可愛小猴子. 10幾個人討論一題homework problem, 一看見我來就*蜂擁而上*.......... 看他們一熟莫展, 我就乾脆叫他們搬椅子到小白板前面, 一次解決他們一票人, 外加路人甲乙丙. 於是, I did some *serious teaching* in our little study center, 一步一步教他們怎麼解那一題. 小猴子們也都很給面子, 認真給我聽我說的. 雖然那一題我花了差不多20分鐘教他們, 不過教會人的成就感是我今天一天最大的收穫!!! 小猴子們, 加油!!!
晚上秘書先生又打電話給我了, 問我星期五中午有沒有空, 找大家一起吃飯. 不過真是搞笑, 我已經不是TOSA幹部了, 他還一直找我. 我絕對不是討厭他或是怎樣, 我反而還蠻樂意幫他, 只要我有空, 一句話, 我就下海了!! 只是我覺得好笑的是, 他反而覺得跟現在的會長不熟, 還跟我說小八卦......hahahaha~~ 不過他也知道現在的會長有一點*點點點*, 所以他之後還是親自打給現在的會長邀請她們吃飯. (哀...真是辛苦秘書先生了...)
他聽我說我的T610的LCD screen被摔爛了, 還立刻答應我送我一隻AT$T的新手機!! 天哪!! 秘書先生人真好!! 所以啦, 不管現在的會長怎麼想, 我坐得正行得直, 不主動找秘書, 但是只要秘書電話一通來, 你說我能不幫嗎!?
明天又是我的猴子進lab的日子, it should be fun!! We'll be playing with bleach and water bubbles!!

原來以前在大學時, 所念的生死學都是廢物!!!(終於有一天我講我的"大學生活"可以用到*以前*2個字...feel so educated...)
當你是個醫療人員時, 生死學可以解釋許多現象以及幫助你面對工作上的問題. 但是, 一旦事情是發生在自己家人身上時, 生死學的大道理可以全部丟在地上, 被卡車輾過來, 再*巴谷* (back) 輾過去............
昨天接到一通電話, 莊爺爺在2004年11月25日11:20am certified. 雖然我跟莊爺爺沒太大焦集, 但是我還是會想到每次跟他見面時他的一舉一動, 畢竟他是我表弟們的阿公. 我還是哭了一陣. 希望他在天之靈, 能好好安息.

原來我的學弟+學長 ---- Jeff, 跟我幻想著同樣的事情.....
只不過, 他的夢想比我多一個, 比我更偉大. 他除了跟我一樣想到澎湖當MD之外, 他竟然還想當個生態保育家......真是有他的!! 不過, 我猜他可能保育家沒當成, 先跑去當立委了說.
今天我媽媽收到了我的畢業證書, 據說只能用*超精美*來形容. 又說上面都是夢幻的古羅馬字體, 不僅燙金, 還加上我們學校的特有的紫色. "University of Washington, Recognition of Mimi Ma, Degree in Bachelor of Science.........." (我是沒看到啦, 是Rhonda跟我說上面都是這些扭來扭去的怪字.) 聽起來真的挺不錯的!! 等到我媽跟我說: "Mi~~你知道嗎!? 這張證書真的剛剛好可以放進那個你學校給的紫色的夾子裡耶!!" "是喔!? 那很好啊!!" ............ "等一下!! 剛好可以放進那個紫色的夾子裡!?" *MY GOD*真是說一千次都不夠了, 那個夾子只有A4的1/2那麼大耶!!!! 你嘛幫幫忙~~ 我含辛茹苦念了4年, 畢業證書只有我小學畢業的表妹的一半大喔!?
大家還記得以前有一個廣告嗎!? 就是一個女生把她出國唸書時的機票跟她的畢業證書錶在一個相框裡 ---- "不辛苦走過, 就不會了解什麼叫驕傲" (好像是這個slogan) 我看了以後真是有夠霹靂感動. 我真的留下當時2000年9月5日來西雅圖的那張機票, 準備跟我的畢業證書框在一起..........這下可好, 你說這兩個東西放在一起能看嗎!? 我的機票還比畢業證書大耶!!! 這樣是怎樣....

其實....
那班猴子還蠻可愛的!!
我發現帶lab是件蠻令人開心的事, 讓我回想起4年前的自己. 做著*一模一樣*的實驗, 帶著fogged-up goggles的臉上浮現的是*一模一樣*freaked-out的神情, 算著一堆不知道自己在算啥的數學.........
知道自己曾經走過的不愉快, 就很想讓他們的日子好過一點.

一切我都接受, no points off for that, as long as you know what you are doing; as long as you know what you suppose to learn from the lab. At least you tried.

是哪個該死的傢伙, 說!!!
害我一天到晚流鼻水, 頭昏昏, 超愛睡. 今天就在完全聽不懂的seminar中睡去了......
剛剛起床, (什麼鬼生理時鐘) 只覺得手冷腳冷, 鼻水完全不聽使喚<流~>, 還要做prelab, 好像是我在拿課一樣. PK的CIDR, 又要我去什麼meeting, 跟我談談話也救不了我在水深火熱的境界.....
還有, 要找Kato-sensei, 可是我死也找不到他, 我們的schedule完全不合.
明天要進lab了, 希望那班猴子不會給我闖禍.....

So, there was a student who switched his section, yet still comes to my section. I should have 24 people total for each section, but then I suddenly have 25 in this specific section. (I missed Zack's exam, so it was still 24 total. Now I *have* to figure out where the heck does Zack's exam + quiz #1 went.....)
Oh well, his name is happened to be *Timothy*....... Gee, I start to wonder if poeple who are called Tim are all 大頭蝦??

Undergrad是幸福的!!!
我這輩子第一次覺得一天就算給我72小時都不夠用.....
hangout? 別傻了!! 我現在覺得就連洗澡都變成一種至高無上的享受. 剛剛改完100份考卷(正確來說, 是96份), 總共花了我7小時, 眼睛都花了說. 還好今天並不是一無所成, 至少還寫了416的作業.
明天要看508的lecture notes, 誓死搞懂spectroscopy. 好像還要看TJP的教材........
Anyway, me go sleep.

GOD....
I spent my whole night studying for the point group stuff, and finally I had a better understanding about what's going on. The calculations for the symmetries of molecular transformation / rotation/ vibration is not as bad as I thought, and this 508 class really helps my 416 class.
I'll go for the "internal coordinates" tomorrow, and see if I can relate that to the Cartesion coordination system.

What do you see?? An old woman or a fairly young lady??
This is the type if illusion of perception, and it illustrates the fact that we all perceive the world differently.
There are always more than one way to see a thing, and the way you analyze it shows whether you are mature enough or not. To say something with certainty without checking it out in person is the behavior of a fool. However, there are not so many mature / smart people around us. We are educated in a way that we take the hearsay as the truth, and sadly yes, we all think we're correct. Not so many of us actually see wide enough to absorb all the possible info before making any judgement. Consequently, misunderstanding appears.
A fool or a wise man? Which one are you??

又是一個Ray所謂自怨自哀的Friday night. (就是那種一個獨居老人的悲慘故事, 了吧!?)
我終於在11:00pm, 跟Ray講話的同時, 作出了重大的決定. It's not the end of story, it's just the begining of it. Sure, inorganic that will be. (<---- 恨透了自己說中文時還要加一段英文) Anyway, (<---- 又來了) 當我今天要加那堂課的時候, 學校有夠笨的電腦系統又不給我加, 說什麼要"add code", 真是氣死我也. 下週教授要出差, 一直要到星期四才會回來. 這下可好, 又要教授幫我寫exemption form了....
剛剛跟Ray (我可不可以叫你Steve呀!?) , Wes, 還有Jack聊完天.
Steve 12/11要來西雅圖過他人生第一個國外的聖誕節, 看來我必須安排一些讓他陪我shopping的節目, 又或者是讓他感受到"西雅圖夜未眠"的生活. (muwahahaha~~~聽起來有點三級...but well, 有許我們可以去提姆即將可能也許大概依稀要去工作的bar喝個爛醉.....)
Wes 也告訴我許多不為人知的內幕消息. So funny....原來搞了半天, 全世界都覺得某些人的做法很搞笑(也許也有一點小pathetic) The wisest thing is that, you don't have to be involved and yet you know the drama. Let's see what will be the next. :)
Jack 似乎完全知道我在想什麼 (因為我的思緒很給他亂, 也許他的腦袋結構也跟我一樣 ---- 亂的很!) 說的每一句話似乎都是sympathetic to my ideas. 真不敢相信, 短短的20天, we can really build a bond..... (God, this is such a chemistry topic....)
幻想了好多天, 一直都沒洗我的bubble bath, maybe tonight is the night ba.....

才第一週就想撞牆!!!
The pchem class is like hell to me. I know nothing about differential equation, vectors, and matrix. My math technique apparently stays at 100 level. And the pchem prof. explain the concepts all in those mathematical symbols which means like nothing.....but bunch of symbols to me. I'm seriously consider to switch my track into inorganic so I can do some bioinorganic research. (Now I just realize how different we are as a biochemist.)
I talked to Andrew earlier today. (And I personally think he's kinda cool, and he was a UW undergrad too. Yay!!) I thought I was the only one who's nervous about being a TA, but he is too!! He missed his first session, and on top of that, his quiz is horrible. Prof. Zoller gives quizzes that the conversion tables are all messed up. Andrew says that he made so many mistakes while go thru the problem with all those kids, and since all the kids are in FIG, they are extremely hard to deal with. (Gee!! Even a typical American guy can't deal with FIGs, I should blame no more of having only one FIG class.)
Oh well, I'm stressed out. I just got up from my nap. (I slept right after I got back from this pchem seminar......) Oh well, inorganic HW is not due until Friday, so I would just do it tomorrow. :)
More of those 國慶日 stuff to work on (Feel so bad that I cannot help at the Thursday banquet since there is a *seminar* I have to go, but I'll go the parade for sure.) + FREE FOOD!!! (that is worth everything!! <---- Mimi becomes so cheap when she gets to the States.)

I know girls are hard to deal with, but now I know more about the definition of "hard". It's even worse than I though. Well, not just only me, even Daniel (a MOFA official) thinks that way too. (Die!! Sensitive + whiny girls!!!)
Anyway, I got an e-mail from my student today, and she said that I'm her *life saver*!! Then I went back to the Webassign thing, and she did get a 100/100 on her homework. (You go, Diana!!) I never know I can be this happy when others get 100% right of their homework!! (Oh, and one more thing: I didn't know TA has such a great power that we can *0verwrite* people's grades or extend deadline of assignments, and view individual problem sets of students. WOW!!) So, I had classes starting 8:00am today, and all the way 'til the TA meeting which is about 2:30pm. Did my office hour (gee, these kids need some serious help out there) in the study center and so forth. Ill be meeting my students tomorrow, kinda excited!!
kk, back to my "finding Chin-dynasty" and followed by my stupid pchem ---- vectors + matrix.

What a FUN Friday night!!
I won't see my students until next Tuesday, but they start to e-mail me!!
I was *extremely* excited when seeing the 1st e-mail asking me questions, but then I realized that it's the begining of the nightmare ---- they simply ask me 3 questions, then I replied them a whole page of explaination. I tried my best to tell them what I know, and hopefully they will get the idea.
Thanks to Wes and Ray for giving me great ideas on being a good TA.
So, the e-mail business continues.............................
